List of Some Emotional Freedom Therapy and Technique Terms.
Not in alphabetical order, yet.

Abreaction.
The process of a client fully associating with an uncomfortable or emotionally painful memory. They in effect relive the event. It can range from the mild discomfort to full blown panic attacks. However once the state has been accessed an experienced emotional freedom therapist can quickly and easily de-fuse the emotions, so that in future it will have little effect on you.

Autopilot.
Our habitual behaviour. When we become aware of these we can change them so we have a choice as to we want to do. Can be good or bad.

A.F.C. Average Frustrated Chump.
This is an expression borrowed from a genius Ross Jeffries. It stands for average frustrated chump. Most men have inherited beliefs about women and have been condition to act, feel and behave in ways around ladies, and in relationships that are unrealistic and unworkable.

Anchoring. A neuro-linguistic programming term.
Connecting, a stimulus to a state. These states can be helpful or not. Your mother looking at you in a certain way when you are fifty, and causing you to, once again feel like a naughty boy, may not be useful, to you. Might be to her.

Phobias and phobic responses are examples of more extreme anchors, they are a subconscious auto-pilot response.

Helpful or positive anchors may include: waking in the morning and feeling excited about your day, or when your income drops below £500 a week being motivated and compelled to gain extra income. Looking at your partner and feeling deep joy and affection.

Anchors are naturally formed in our lives and we can now remove the unhelpful ones and install positive and creative ones.

Apex.
This occurs when a clients problem clears up very fast and they may feel that they never had it, or it was not really that bad. A smoker may for example leave the session and totally forget they ever smoked, until someone asks them " so when did you quit smoking"

Some fast reframing and cognitive shifts have occurred. Can be challenging for therapists which is one reason we calibrate before and after a round.

Art of Delivery.
The advanced use of EFT, uses imagination, intuition, insight, experience and humour to help clients discover and remove the underlying causes of pain and other problems. The art of delivery goes way beyond normal basic EFT, advanced EFT, neuro-ilnguistic programming and hypnosis. We work with your, body-mind system, helping you as the truly unique human being that you are.

Aspects
Can be thought of as 'issues within issues' different parts of the problem that are related to but separate from it but have become associated with it.

Basic Formula.
The above link will take you to a page with a tvideo and podcast.

Basic Recipe A four-step treatment consisting of Setup phrase, Sequence (tapping on acupoints in order), 9-Gamut Treatment, and Sequence. This was the original EFT protocol.

Setup phrase.
You're opening statement said at the beginning of each EFT round which defines and helps neutralise your problem. The standard Setup phrase is, Even though I have this (problem) ___________, I fully and completely love, accept and appreciate myself.

Writings on Your Walls.
An expression coined by the creator of this system that explains. The self limiting beliefs habits and attitudes that result from social, religious, educational, parental and self conditioning, these are often illogical and harmful yet very strong subconscious influences. You have been programmed away from your natural self, at least, from the time of your birth on this planet.

Scanning.
Scanning is a process done by advanced therapists in order to gain access to useful information, in order to help the client. It may involve sub-modality tracking, active hallucinations or using psychic skills in order to assist. Many who have been trained will also use many of the non verbal clues used by acupuncturists or neuro-linguistic programming, along with calibrated intuition and experience. Can also involve the use of remote viewing.

I’ll Handle it.
An important attitude for growth.

Provocative Therapy.
A very useful technique for getting to core issues.

Playing on Your Holodeck.
We already have one and use it, usually in a negative and unhelpful way. Read more by clicking on the link.

Transderivational Search.
This is a term used mainly in neuro linguistic programming, basically our mind will do what we tell it, when it is trained. A TS is just asking our minds to step out side how we currently are and look for new possibilities. If I did know what to do next what would it be. If I could do this what would I do.

Mind Mapping.
Mind Maps are a great way to uncover and map on what may be your glitches, what is emotionally preventing you for living as you want.

Mental Rehearsal and Visualisation.
An incredibly powerful technique to program you subconscious control mind, to act in certain ways, at certain times in the future, when done with positive outcomes.

Much research has been done in this area, that has discovered that a combination of "imagined practice" and actual practice often results in better performances than those achieved with preparation that relies solely on actual practice.

In an emotional freedom therapeutic context it often relates to a client mentally rehearsing negative behaviours and habits and reinforcing them.

S.E.H.R.
Self Induced Hypnotic Realities.

This is a truly amazing skill that most people have, and use many times a day. It is your natural ability to believe what you tell yourself, and create in your own mind. Then you live as if it is true. Basically most of the time you live a fantasy.

If you are able to sit on a sofa and freak out over something in an imaginary future that does not exist and may never be in your life, or go over an argument with someone, while you are making a cup of tea or coffee, argue with someone who is not in the room, see them in your mind and listen to the sound of their voice. Maybe get angry, you are doing it.

Running Simulations.
Running “simulated realties” tend to be run by people and can give a false perception of what is being lived. Different from virtual reality, as virtual reality is easily distinguished from the experience of "true" reality.

People are never in doubt about the nature of what they experience simulated reality, by contrast, would be hard or impossible to separate from "true" reality.

Dr Who Syndrome.
A humorous reframe to explain some peoples habit of believing that they are a time lord and have the ability to time travel. They enter a state, travel to the future they choose. This often involves a future that is uncomfortable, they exit the tardis and then live, play or experience all the nasty, bad things happening.

Get upset, and then travel back in time to today, and feel bad about something they decided to create. An amazing skill, if used to create great futures.

Fortune Cookies.
Many of these are things that you picked up at a younger time in life, possibly through parental, religious, social, educational and self conditioning and programming. That continue to influence your daily living. “Money does not grow on trees” “you can't have your cake and eat it” When you look at these statements, you can begin to notice that they are false.

Calibration.
Calibration is measuring and monitoring the intensity of the clients emotional state. Or if you are enjoying self practice of emotional freedom techniques, your own intensity.

When we start a round it may be a 7, after a round it may be a 5.
Another round a 3. One more round 0. Calibration gives feedback to the client and practitioner, as to the effectiveness of the techniques and also allows the client to experience the reality that, if they do something they can change and have control over the emotional states they experience.

Cognitive Shift.
Cognitive Shifts are a sudden conscious or subconscious change of perspective about the problem. E.g.
“It doesn’t bother me anymore.”
“I’m not afraid anymore; I feel fine.”
“I see it, but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with me.”
“I don’t care about it anymore — it’s not important.”
“It’s O.K. It’s all over.”
“I don’t feel that way now.”
“I can’t find it.”

Core Issues.
Core Issues are what drives the problem. These drivers when successfully turned off will often collapse a complex emotional issue with many aspects. They are not always obvious due to secondary gain and subconscious incongruence, however, once discovered, they can be broken down and handled with EFT.

Tail-Enders and Mind Farts.
The yes, but statements that create negative self-talk. When you state a goal or affirmation, tail-enders point the way to core issues. The things you tell yourself, after you have told yourself. They are the things you listen to and usually act upon. The sometimes unhelpful voices in your mind. Have you ever wanted to give up smoking and then your own mind says things like: "it will be hard" I cant" The tail enders and mind farts are usually the last thing you say and listen to.

Full Routine.
The full routine is the classic eft procedure using all the points and the classical set up.

Three Thumps.
A quick and easy energy booster developed by Donna Eden. Booster for your energy system and reduces stress Tapping K-27, Thymus Gland and Spleen neurolymphatic wakes you up and corrects energy imbalances. Part of most daily energy drills.

Shot Gun EFT.
This is a technique and expression I developed to help a client who was having problems approaching women. In effect you set up an anchor using an imaginary shot gun. When you fire it, the shot will hit all the major EFT tapping points at once. With calibration you will instantly be able to see the shifts in consciousness. It is a mixer of anchoring, DHE, and surrogate emotional freedom techniques.

Chasing the Pain.
Often when we are working with physical symptoms they will move and change location, and often intensity. So we chase them until they go.

Movie Technique.
In this process you review in your mind, the situation or event that causes the glitch, as though it were a movie.

Story Technique.
This is where the client will tell the story, what happened what is causing concerns, and as they do so you get them to tap along. Often amazing results.

Generalisation Effect.
One of the effects of effective emotional freedom therapy, is that when a problem has been neutralised, this often unblocks other glitches and issues. Allowing the client to explore other possibilities. Other parts of our lives can, and often are, positively effected.

Polarity Reversal.
When our energetic system is reversed, the energy runs the wrong way, can create negative thinking and the "Eeyore effect". If your energy polarity is reversed, you may feel non-deserving or unworthy of positive change. Have limiting beliefs, and make the same self-defeating mistakes over and over again.

Eeyore Effect.
We all know the "Winnie the Poo" character. The delightfully dismal donkey he doesn't see himself as gloomy, he just has low expectations and that's all he ever gets.

Ecology Check.
Is about finding out what problems could arise when the desired goal is reached, understanding what changes you will need to make, and who else it may rub up the wrong way.

For example. "Yes, I can achieve this, but I'm going to have to buy new clothes, people might be attracted to me, I do not yet have the skills to deal with it.”
"I'll have to pay more taxes, I'll have less free time."
“Mum and dad will hate it, it’s going to cause problems”

Doing the check first and discovering what other changes will be needed allows the subconscious and conscious minds to avoid incongruence.

Karate Chop Point.
A point used on the fleshy part of your hand, which is sometimes used during an eft round.

Personal Peace Procedure.
One of the most powerful emotional freedom therapy has to offer. Becoming your own best friend, who you can trust totally. Will also get rid of hundreds of glitches.

Secondary Benefit.
Benefits to keeping the problem. Click below.

Secondary Gain.
Subconscious justifications for keeping your problem.

Tertiary Gain.
A less well-studied emotional process is tertiary gain, when a third party such as a relative, partner, family member or friend is motivated to gain sympathy, attention, income or other benefits from the condition of the person. Often found in co-dependancy relationships. This can often lead to difficulties in easy personal change as they have a vested interest in you keeping your problem. They will often attempt to sabotage you changing and attempt to get you to return to you old behaviours.

Co-dependancy Relationships.
It really is about unhealthy emotional dependencies, often driven by low self esteem, guilt, and often repressed anger.

Personal Responsibility.
One of the biggest problems to overcome for many to overcome, when we except it we have massive power. When we don’t we are victims of ourselves.

Meridians.
Meridians are possible channels or pathways of energy that flow around the human body. Generally not seen with the naked eye however many people have received effective training in the manipulation of this energy, and appear to be able to very effectively work with it.

Mechanical EFT.
Basic Formula consists of tapping on the Sore Spot while saying three times, 'Even though I have this __[problem]__, I fully and completely love, accept and appreciate myself' (Setup phrase), followed by three rounds of tapping in order, with an appropriate Reminder Phrase. In the real world it refers to how many people do the drills, almost on auto-pilot and with little expectation of results. This attitude is to be avoided. The Drills should be done with intent to be fully effective.

F.I.I.K.L.F.O.
A realistic and honest term used in effective personal transformation, by the more advanced explores of realities. It stands for : F@*@ed if I know lets find out. No one can know everything and often in therapy we get pleasant surprises and new learning experiences.

Jellyfish.
Jellyfish is an expression used by some advanced EFT practitioners to describe a client who has an external locus of control.

SUD - Subjective Units of Distress or Discomfort.
This is the scale used by most eft practitioners. It is a guide used to measure emotional intensity from 0 to 10. It is also the first step in getting off auto-pilot, and allows the client and therapist to notice the changes that take place after a round of eft. Later in more advanced suds, we use this technique to reframe and change the intensity using our reality checker.

DHE.
Design Human Engineering. An idea developed by Dr Richard Bandler to design your neurology to be just the way you want. With the thoughts, emotions, attitudes and feelings you desire. Uses many of our natural talents as hypnotic machines to create possibilities.

NLP.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an approach to psychotherapy and organisational change based on "a model of interpersonal communication chiefly concerned with the relationship between successful patterns of behaviour and the subjective experiences underlying them" "a system of alternative therapy based on this which seeks to educate people in self-awareness and effective communication with themselves and others, to allow them to change their patterns of mental and emotional behaviour" Much of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is based on these principles.

Clearing the undergrowth.
Used to describe the process of mental emotional and energetic cleaning and clearing.

Tell it as it is.
To get the best results you do need to say whats really the problem.

EFT Play Diary and Journal.
Keeping a diary of your emotional freedom drills and practice allows you to better calibrate your results and track you progress over time. With more complex issues it also allows you to discover many of the aspects, writings on your walls and subconscious incongruence that may be limiting you. It is also an excellent way to generate new behaviours.

Tailenders.
This is your negative or reality checking voice, that pops up right after you have said something. It is the last thing you hear and it is usually what you act upon. When these are changed or removed you feel and behave very differently.

Surrogate Tapping.
Also called "proxy tapping" This is a technique used to do the "drills" on yourself, for another. Usually done for babies, children or adults who cannot do the drills on themselves.

Sore Spot.
Also known as the "pledge spot" in the USA.
It is used to stimulate the lymphatic system and is the first area that is used as it helps to turn off psychological reversal. Most people use the alternative "karate chop" point because it is easier to find and use, however that is no excuse.

Borrowing Benefits.
The founder of emotional freedom techniques "Gary Craig" discovered that during some group demonstrations, participants who tapped along, when someone else was tapping on their own problem, had a glitch of their own dissolve away. We don't know the boundaries or limits on this technique, however it does seam to work.

Global Tapping.
Being specific with eft is the key to exquisite results, however sometime we are unable to get a lead as to what is really bothering us. Example" Even though I have no idea why I am really pissed off" "Even though I have no idea what to do"

Psychological Reversal. PR
This happens when we are in two minds, you know the state. In eft is also called subconscious incongruence or secondary gain. Often our subconscious control mind has a different plan, to what we consciously choose. When this happens your unconscious will always win. Removing this glitch and getting all areas of mind to agree to a plan of action has dramatic results.

Basic Recipe/Sequence.
"This is the Drill" the standard sequence of techniques and tapping points that are generally found to be effective with most people.

Conscious Mind.
Different things to different people. However, you can think of it as you're underlying awareness of your environment. What you are aware of.

Subconscious Mind/Unconscious Mind.
Nothing mystical about this, it is just the parts of your mind that you are not aware of. Think of it as you hard drive, like on your computer. It's all the programs and codes that you use to live. The more you are able to access this area and clean it up.The more you are able to use your computer.

Control Mind.
Another term used to describe our subconscious control mind and programming.

Internal Dialogue/Self Talk / I tell my Self.
Your self talk is what you tell yourself or say to yourself. Your ID is not always conscious often it has gone unconscious, it is one of your most powerful tools for changing your reality. If it is realistic, positive and powerful your life will generally be fine. However, if you condemn yourself and talk to you in a negative way, life is generally crap.

Negative Self Hypnosis.
Negative self hypnosis is a huge problem for most people and creates many problems for them in life.

Modalities.
Our internal representations which relate to our senses Visual, Kinaesthetic, Gustatory, Auditory, Olfactory and also our internal dialogue. They allow us to code meaning in to our life.

Sub Modalities.
Fine distinctions of our modalities by which we give order and meaning to our lives. They hare part of how we structure our experiences and life. They can be controlled, directed and changed. Part of eft involves this.

State Break.
Used in therapy and teaching to quickly exit a state and enter a neutral state.

Reminder Phrase .
Words, phrase, or sentence that helps the mind focus on the problem being treated. For example “I feel fat” “I feel unloved”

Fractionation.
Used in EFT to repeat the induction of trance, break that state and then re-enter, this deepens and quickens access to this state with each fractionation.

Hakalau.
Used often in energy work and by high achievers. An amazing process to place yourself in a state, trance, awareness bubble, where there are no negative emotions and you have complete relaxed awareness. Great for seeing all a client does.

Beliefs.
Joseph O'Connor and John Seymour:
The generalisations we make about ourselves, others and the world and our operating principles in it. Beliefs act as "self-fulfilling prophecies" that influence all our behaviours.

Behaviours.
Your expressions of all the filter systems you use to explain and live in your world.

Habits.
What you do without awareness. You do them on auto-pilot. Can be beneficial or not.

Tapping.
Generally used to describe the process of tapping on points on your body in order to effect a personal change using emotional freedom techniques.
