Misconceptions about Emotional Freedom Technologies There are many misconceptions about EFT the with the general public and practitioners. In order to publicise this system Gary Craig did a wonderful thing, he made the manual and information free to the world and said “try it on anything. ”People did and most of the time it worked, in fact miracles were and still are being done daily in private practice. However the apparent simplicity of the techniques when viewed has caused not only misunderstanding but also some giggles about EFT. Just like all masters of any art Gary makes it look simple, elegant and easy. When you know what to do it is. I would like to give you some background information about what really takes place when we use emotional freedom therapy with clients, sort of a look behind the curtain. It will become apparent that this system uses vast amounts of hypnosis, neuro linguistic programming (NLP) intuition and skill. The Tapping. Lines of energy within the body known as meridians are used to tap on in this therapy. I spent 2 years studying acupuncture point location, anatomy and physiology along with the location of meridians at the Collage of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. My private study still continues. In reality there is a great deal of difference in effectiveness between hitting a point and tapping in the general area. For the most effectiveness and power the points have to be hit. Spot on. This requires skill, knowledge and practice. In private practice we also require our clients to tap the points in a slightly different way and with a different pressure. This technique is not openly taught as it does require additional skills, it is not even taught at advanced practitioner level. Private clients are also taught additional energy drills that will increase the effectiveness of there lives. Many of Donna Eden’s “three thumps”. The Set up Phrase. We all know the standard “ even though” set up. This is still the standard however when we get to work with clients this is often changed for more specific phrases, and this is were hypnosis and NLP come in . Without a deep knowledge of these fields it will be impossible to set up the reframes, meta model, ambiguities presuppositions and metaphors that used in advanced EFT. Hypnosis and NLP. Hypnotic language also plays a vital part of effective personal change with our clients. Thankfully this is now being taught to the average advanced practitioner, and there skills and abilities will increase and allow them to help growing numbers of clients. So you can see that far more goes on behind the vale than just simple vague tapping. The skilled practitioner will be tracking your language patterns, watching your representational systems and formulating the best strategy to allow you the outcome you desire. This is just a brief look at what is really going on, and there is much more. So the next time someone giggles about “just tapping” inform then that a lot more is going on. |
